Fraudsters are exploiting data from university breaches years after the incidents, using .edu email addresses to open bank accounts and secure credit lines, according to research by David Maimon of Georgia State University and SentiLink. This trend has been particularly noted among universities such as Southern Illinois University and the University of Missouri. Maimon recommends that colleges block .edu email access for graduates and urges students to consider credit freezes and identity-theft monitoring.
