Principal's Note

Dear Holmes families,

Can you believe the crazy weather we’ve been having? One day felt like a beautiful spring afternoon, and within 24 hours we were seeing snow! It certainly feels like the weather is matching how busy and fast-paced this time of year can feel for all of us.

With just about two weeks left in the quarter, this is a great time to check ParentVUE/StudentVUE with your child to review grades and any missing assignments. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to your child’s teacher - we are here to help.

This week we were also proud to host our Band and Chorus pre-assessment concerts, and our students did an amazing job. Their hard work and dedication were truly on display, and we are so proud of them!

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support.

Sincerely,

Serena Giron

Principal

Purple Up! Day 2026: Supporting Our Military-Connected Youth

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is gearing up to honor and celebrate its military-connected youth in April, the Month of the Military Child, and on Purple Up! Day!

This year, Virginia will celebrate Purple Up! Day on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. Purple Up! Day is a special day for communities to come together and wear purple as a visible gesture of support for our military-connected youth and their families. Purple symbolizes the combined colors of all branches of the military.

FCPS Purple Up! T-shirts and other items are available for purchase now through Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in our Custom Ink online store. These items highlight our gratitude and appreciation for our 14,500 military-connected students and their families. #PurpleUpFCPS!

County Seeking Budget Input

About 70% of the FCPS budget comes from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. They are currently reviewing the county’s 2027 Fiscal Year Advertised Budget and are considering possible adjustments before the final county budget is adopted in May. Provide the county with feedback on how you would like your tax dollars spent by completing this survey.

Presenting... Eighth Grade Personal Ads Due 3/13

Due Date: Friday, March 13, 2026

The yearbook staff is excited to provide you with a chance to celebrate your eighth grader as they transition to high school. Delight your student with a personal ad in the yearbook! These heartfelt messages can come from parents, grandparents, siblings, or even pets.

You can purchase multiple ads, but please ensure to submit a separate form for each one. Each ad will be the size displayed and the cost is $15 per ad.

Please submit one (1) digital photo via email to KWBranch@fcps.edu or to CROrihuela@fcps.edu.

Phones Off, Learning On

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students focus, learn, and engage. When students put their phones away, they have more face-to-face interactions with their peers and teachers and more opportunities to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Please remind your child that:

  • Cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell).
  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.
