A subway platform where the next train is 30 minutes' away. A dive bar after 2am. New Orleans in the scorching dead of scorching summer. New York City in February (it’s been a particularly harsh winter). There are some places so spectacular to me that it doesn’t matter if the sky is gray or the air icy. I’d much prefer elbow room at the Colosseum and a decent, affordable hotel room over perfect weather – even in peak season, you’re not guaranteed pristine conditions.
