From Coolangatta to Cairns, a talent search has begun in the countdown to the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The regional road trip's latest stop was in central Queensland this week.
Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) talent scouts visited Yeppoon and Emerald and will be in Gladstone next week (Thursday, March 12) on the hunt for the next generation of CQ sporting champions.
I had the pleasure of interviewing the QAS' head of talent Alex Roberts about the academy's first-of-its-kind YouFor2032 app being used to broaden the search for 2032 Olympians and Paralympians (see story below).
The app is open to young Queenslanders aged 13 to 23 for Olympic sports, and people aged 13 to 30 for Paralympic sports.
Interestingly through the app, budding athletes can record themselves performing basic movements like jumping and lunging.
The app then uses artificial intelligence to assess their abilities in real time.
One thing is for sure, country Queensland has raised some of our biggest sports icons and incredible Olympians and Paralympians.
Will we see another Anna Meares or Duncan Armstrong representing CQ and Australia in 2032?
Have a great week and remember, if you have a story idea drop an email to Rockhampton.Regional@abc.net.au and make sure you like our ABC Capricornia Facebook page for links to all of our stories.
