Hello and welcome back to the weekly health newsletter, Caitlyn Davey here.
I doubt there are too many people out there that wouldn't like to live longer and healthier lives.
Longevity has become a real buzz word with influencers, celebrities and wellness products.
There have been plenty of documentaries on the lifestyles of centenarians, educating us on how we might be able to extend our life span in a healthier way.
People are even injecting unproven and potentially dangerous peptides in a bid to stay younger.
Back in mid-January we looked at a study that came out that found just five minutes of daily exercise could improve our life expectancy (though it's worth noting that was compared to people doing nothing, rather than doing less).
And this week on Life Matters, Tegan Taylor spoke with Dr Norman Swan and Sydney Morning Herald lifestyle editor Sarah Berry about longevity and when it goes wrong, called "longevity fixation syndrome".
Basically it's about when people obsess over living longer to the point it has negative impacts on their mental health.
There's a bit of irony here given anxiety can have detrimental effects on our health.
I hope you, like me, take an interest in how we can live longer (gardening, the Mediterranean diet and low intensity activity have been my main takeaways) and rely on trusted sources. But don't forget to live in the moment and enjoy the life you have!
That's it from me. Read on for more health stories and podcasts.
