Amidst days of shocking world news, closer to home there have been some lovely examples of the efforts and success of our community.
Rhys Martin is only 12 years of age but looks to have added to his trophy cabinet after reeling in a massive marlin off Jurien Bay. While he's normally into catch and release, Rhys's dad says that wasn't possible in this case so the large fish was smoked and shared with friends and family.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the clean up (pictured) at the Abrolhos Islands. Pia Boschetti launched the Flotsam and Jetsam Project 15 years ago and says there's far less historic rubbish to be found. Stay tuned for the upcoming exhibition where this rubbish will be turned into art by very talented local creatives.
And Northam was the site for the launch of a joint federal and state government project for better services for people living with disability in regional areas. It's one of five locations where work has begun to design a fly-in, fly-out model. Let's hope it can be expanded further afield in the future.
