Codex is growing rapidly. I personally am now using it in addition to (and for some projects even instead of) Claude Code. Though, don't get me wrong, both are amazing!
But Codex is truly a great tool. For multiple reasons:
The CLI is written in Rust, which wouldn't matter necessarily, but the performance IS stunning!
There is an awesome macOS desktop app available!
The underlying AI model (also called "Codex") is extremely performant
Of course it also has pretty much all the amazing features Claude Code offers
Just like Claude Code, you can get a bit more out of Codex if you spend the time to thoroughly learn about its features and how to leverage them for your projects.
Because, still: Good input == Good output.
That's why I again sat down to record another
brand-new course where I share my way of using Codex for agentic engineering (still not vibecoding).
In
that course, we'll explore the core features (of CLI, macOS app and IDE integration), learn how to configure Codex and dive into more advanced concepts like using MCPs, Git worktrees, working with "Agent Skills", performing proper context engineering and more.
We'll also explore how to offload tasks to the cloud!
By the end of the course, you'll be able to use Codex efficiently and boost your productivity in future projects.
