Hi ala,
When your kids grow up, you discover your real talents.
"Mom, where's that chocolate cake recipe?"
"Mom, what does a frozen pizza cost?"
"Mom, can you come and push my car out of the snowbank?"
Mom grew up racing cars on frozen lakes in Upstate New York and knows a lot about snowbanks. (A story for another day.) Mom has a weird ability to remember the price of every grocery item purchased. Mom makes a killer chocolate cake.
When kids are little, they need food, cuddles, and entertainment. It's when they get older they realize you have a special set of skills. (Although, they could have called the bigger, stronger parent to push the car out of the snowbank.)
We all have special skills and knowledge. Sometimes it takes someone else to recognize them. If you're searching for your speaking topic, ask a friend or colleague. Don't ask your kids.
