The border battle over the Bears gained steam Wednesday as officials in Portage, Ind., made their pitch to lure the team with a $5 billion stadium, while suburban fans and leaders planned to rally to bring the team to Arlington Heights — with a new urgency to fight off bids from Indiana.

“This is no longer Arlington Heights versus Chicago,” Arlington Heights Mayor Jim Tinaglia said. “This is about doing what we need to keep the Bears here in Illinois.”
