RCMP say they are investigating a school shooting in northern B.C., with one suspect located dead and police confirming a number of victims.

Staff Sergeant Kris Clark, a spokesman for BC RCMP, said Tuesday afternoon officers are trying to determine whether reports of a second shooter at the high school in Tumbler Ridge are accurate.

He told The Globe and Mail that there are multiple victims of the shooting, but he could not say how many were injured or the extent of their injuries.

An intrusive alert was broadcast to mobile phones in the area Tuesday afternoon just after 2 p.m. The alert advised Tumbler Ridge residents to shelter in place, lock their doors and refrain from going outside. The suspect was described as a female in a dress with brown hair, according to the alert.

“Situations like this are always very chaotic and typically result in multiple reports of multiple shooters,” said Staff Sgt. Clark, who said officers are trying to determine if she acted alone.
