Write the email they forward

Hey Niepodam,

A VP Sales I work with forwarded my cold email to his entire GTM team.

Subject line untouched.
Message unedited.
Just added: “We should be doing this.”

He didn’t reply to me directly.
His VP did.
Booked a call the next day.

Here’s the thing: I didn’t write that email for him.

I wrote it for the 4 people he'd forward it to.

Because execs don’t reply to clever.
They reply to clarity — and forward relevance.

So I stopped chasing the reply.
I started aiming for the forward.

Here’s what I sent:

Subject: Reps still account mapping in Notion?

Hey [CRO Name], not sure if this is on your radar, but saw [company] added 3 AEs last month.

Teams at that stage usually hit a wall:
→ Reps working different accounts
→ No single source of truth
→ Leadership flying blind on coverage

We helped [peer company] solve this fast (RevOps synced targeting + trigger playbooks in 2 weeks).

Thought it might be worth a look if your team’s in the messy middle.

Happy to send the teardown?

No fluff. No fancy lines.

Just a clear mirror of what his team was likely struggling with — that he could forward instantly.

Here’s the framework I use:

F.O.R.W.A.R.D.

  • Function: Who’s likely to actually use what you're offering?
  • Obvious pain: What internal mess would that person complain about?
  • Relevance: Why now? What recent move makes this timely?
  • What peers solved: Who else like them fixed it already?
  • Anchor to workflow: How does this fit into their day-to-day?
  • Real language: Would a VP actually say this in a meeting?
  • Decision clarity: Can they forward it without rewriting a word?

Subject: Saw you added 3 AEs

Hey [First Name] — saw [Company] is growing the AE team.

Often when that happens, targeting gets messy fast (no shared account map, everyone doing their own thing).

Happy to share how [client] built a clean coverage plan in under 2 weeks — might be helpful if your reps are in the same boat.

Want the playbook?

This isn't about writing better emails.
It’s about writing emails that travel internally.

And those win you deals faster than anything clever ever could.
