Most wrenches are forged from tool steel, but It was determined that this wrench must be Titanium. Why Titanium? It’s extremely corrosion resistant, featuring No/Low magnetic signature. Extraordinarily strong, titanium possesses a greater strength-to-weight ratio than stainless, steel or aluminum. Titanium weighs about 60% less than steel in density, producing tools at nearly half the weight of steel. This means that the wrench needed to be machined out of a solid billet of Titanium. Making an adjustable wrench in the machine shop is a lot more complicated than it sounds. Over 27 hours of machining is needed to create just a single wrench! Why Titanium? Titanium is a great material for wrenches because of its unique combination of properties. Some of the most important properties of titanium that make it suitable for use in wrenches include: Lightweight: Titanium is much lighter than other metals commonly used in wrenches, such as steel.
