Welcome back to The Weekender, where you’ll find a batch of the week’s top stories about culture and the way we live today.

We lost Catherine O’Hara yesterday at the age of 71. In a comment on our site, Rylee Kirk, who co-wrote O’Hara’s obituary, noted how many mother figures the actress had played over the years: Delia Deetz, Moira Rose, Mrs. McCallister. That was what I thought about first, too — her portrayals of motherhood, from the off-the-wall to the frantic, all filled with heart. Which of her roles did you love most? You can read the full remembrance below, and share your memories with us here.

Also in this edition, we have words to live by from two dozen doctors, therapists and authors; our food columnist’s personal account of how losing her limbs made her a new kind of cook; and an invitation from the Book Review Book Club to start Brontë-maxxing. Join them to read and discuss “Wuthering Heights” before the highly anticipated movie adaptation comes out next month. I’ll go dig out my copy, and see you next weekend(er).
