Snowy eagle

Dear Garfield Families,

It’s hard to believe that February is just around the corner! Next week marks the end of the second quarter and the midpoint of our school year. As teachers wrap up instruction and assessments, we are incredibly proud of the hard work our Garfield Eagles show each day as they grow, learn, and work toward their academic goals. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting learning at home—your encouragement truly makes a difference in the nest.

As we head into the weekend, the forecast is calling for the possibility of winter weather. Please continue to monitor official Fairfax County Public Schools communications regarding any potential delays or closures. You can also reference the FCPS Weather Cancellations Procedures in the Prepare for Winter Weather section below.

Last evening, families received a message from Dr. Reid regarding student devices coming home in preparation for a potential storm. While there will not be remote learning if school is closed, students may access optional FCPS instructional resources using their school-issued devices.

If we have snow days, Snow Day Extension Activities provided by the county will be available to reinforce learning in a manageable and meaningful way. Families can also visit the FCPS’ winter resources page for information on academic support, mental health resources, and assistance related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Garfield Elementary School. We are grateful for our strong home–school partnership and wish you a safe and warm weekend ahead.

With appreciation,

Principal Kerry Peerman and Asst. Principal Liz Manning
