Atoms Winter Weekly Recap
* With impending weather, make sure to check in for cancelations/postponements *
Boys Basketball returned home for the first time a couple of weeks Tuesday as they opened another three game week. The Atoms showed some strength in their two district games this week as they took down TJ and Lewis by 20+ points in each game. Friday night was a different story as they took on Marshall who made quick work of the Atoms to get the non-district win. The Atoms travel to Edison Tuesday evening.
Girls Basketball played TJ and Lewis this week in two district games. The Atoms played hard in both games but unfortunately came up short in their attempts to get a district win. The Atoms hung with TJ throughout the first three quarters before the Colonials ultimately pulled away. Game two saw a back and forth affair as the Atoms celebrated senior night prior to the game. The Lancers were able to hold the Atoms at bay to get the district win. The Atoms welcome Edison to campus Tuesday.
Gymnastics celebrated senior Kate Hanlen prior to the meet on Wednesday evening. The Atoms performed well in their last meet before the National District Championship meet at Mount Vernon on February 2. They continue to demonstrate skills that continuously get better with each meet!
Indoor Track several Atoms participated in the Montgomery Invitational last weekend. They represented Annandale well as many of them achieved personal best times as they have their final tuneup before the National District Championship meet Wednesday and Thursday at Prince George Sportsplex.
Swim & Dive had their final meet of the year vs TJ Friday evening. It was a final tuneup before the National District Meet on Friday and Saturday. The Atoms battled the Colonials but came up short. However, The Atoms have been a force all year and are now primed to make a run at a National District Championship at Audrey Moore Friday and Saturday.
Wrestling had their final tri-meet of the season Tuesday evening at TJ. The Atoms took on Lewis and TJ in the meet. The Atoms came up short against district power Lewis but defeated TJ in the second match of the evening. The Atoms take on Yorktown on Tuesday for senior night and have their final district match Wednesday at Mt. Vernon.

Dance Team Show Outs
Our Dance team competed in the Brooke Invitational and had a great showing!
From the Coach:
We competed in the Small Varsity Hip Hop division – which had 6 total teams competing in it. We placed 5th. This is the first time this team has ever not come in last place in a competition. It is a huge accomplishment for this team. Especially considering: our team’s overall score was 69/100 at our regional competition in December, and the girls set a goal, not to beat another team, but to improve their overall score by 6 points at this weekend’s invitational. They took the judges critiques from December and applied them at practice over the last month and yesterday they got an overall score of 80/100 … an 11 point improvement. Almost double their goal.
Atoms Recognized for Postseason Teams

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help
Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!
For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Lissette Puna.
