Some big happenings at some big New York institutions this week: The nurses strike rages on, Saks filed for bankruptcy, and Mamdani is installing a suite of bidets at Gracie Mansion. As for housing, the inventory is feeling as bleak as the weather so far (I swear to God, if I see another bathroom with a gray vinyl floor I’m going to go berserk). I had to turn to Craigslist for inspiration, which brought me to Williamsburg, Park Slope, the West Village, and, last but not least … New Jersey!

Williamsburg

$2,550, 1-bedroom: Something about this windowed sleeping alcove had my name on it. The brown tile in the bathroom does not, however.

Park Slope

$14,950, 3-bedroom: A crazy person lives here! The rainbow tile and stained-glass mélange in the bathroom really confirmed that for me. A lot of choices are almost fab, and then they have to go and throw a taxidermy mount into the mix. Ya hate to see it.

$2,980, 1-bedroom: The price-to-AI ratio here tracks. The garden is the highlight (if real).

$5,700, 1-bedroom: Beautiful prewar with original moldings and oversize windows, however the linoleum is kind of a problem. It’s even spread to the office (or Peloton closet). Listing is $5,700 or best offer (another reason I love Craigslist.)

West Village

$7,600, 1-bedroom: I have a good feeling about this townhouse, despite there being no photos. Text the number listed for a video if you know what’s good for you.

Upper East Side

$4,000, studio: A very cinematic, nearly entire-wall window that justifies the price of admission.

$5,600, 1-bedroom: Perfectly nice prewar with great parquet, spitting distance from the Met.

$15,000, 2-bedroom: Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this prewar that’s a million dollars is perfect and I have no notes.

Bed-Stuy

$3,350, 1-bedroom: Very idiosyncratic duplexish with a perfect, cozy country bedroom. The exposed beams are transportative. Would sleep very well here.

$12,000, 4-bedroom: Just a big old unaffordable but gorgeous house.

Jersey City

$2,600, 1-bedroom: A very rom-com apartment with crown moldings and a built-in mirror that feels very princess.
