Sleep is essential, but can you have too much of a good thing? A collaborative study led by UCSF scientists used Lumosity gameplay data to explore how sleep duration affects performance - across age groups and game types.
They found a consistent peak in performance at 7 hours of sleep. People who slept more - or less - scored lower on memory, speed, and problem-solving games. Surprisingly, even teens showed steeper performance drops when they got extra sleep.
The takeaway? While sleep needs vary by person, more isn’t always better. Finding your own cognitive rhythm might be more important than hitting a high number.
