It wasn’t all bad in 2025.

Most of our coverage of animal welfare and factory farming at Vox’s Future Perfect tends to be relentlessly depressing — crucially important to shine a light on, but depressing nonetheless. And yet, for an issue area on which we as a society are basically in the dark ages, there’s a surprising amount of good news, thanks to the fiercely dedicated movement of advocates fighting to draw humanity’s attention to animal exploitation and suffering.

So, earlier this month, we challenged ourselves to round up the biggest wins of the year for animals. There were a lot of them! So many that we couldn’t fit all of them into one piece. Check out senior reporter Kenny Torrella’s roundup of 2025’s nine most important pieces of good news for animals — from the collapse of the fur industry to slowing waning of dairy industry tyranny.
