| | | | | Good morning, Chicago. I don’t follow pro sports as an adult, but on Saturday evening, I could not help but check in to see how the Bears were faring. I was joyous to learn of their dramatic overtime victory over the Packers. (As were some of our readers, per our letters.) Bears honcho Kevin Warren recently revealed that the Bears are considering northwest Indiana, my former stomping grounds, as a potential site for a new stadium. In today’s opinion section, op-ed contributor Liam Stanton explains why the Bears shouldn’t stray from their current home of Chicago (and how local leaders and the team realistically can make that happen). The Tribune Editorial Board, in its two pieces today, argue why Illinoisans need to to be cognizant of energy demands and how private debt collectors might be going after debt that is not legitimate. Also in commentary, Better Government Association official Bryan Zarou explains why the City Council’s passage of an alternative budget proposal is wonderful for democracy at the local level. And foreign affairs columnist Daniel DePetriris cites the Islamic State group as an example of the futility in trying to stamp out terrorism. Cheers to all who celebrate Christmas. — Colleen Kujawa, opinion editor Submit an op-ed | Submit a letter to the editor | Meet the Tribune Editorial Board | Subscribe to this newsletter | | | | Soldier Field has real constraints. The Bears’ checklist isn’t unreasonable. But northwest Indiana isn’t a plan. It’s a tactic. | | | | | A new report confirms what this page said more than a year ago. Illinois must pivot on its green energy policies to ensure we don’t run short on power. | | | | | Everyone has to pay what they owe in a functional city. | | | | | Terrorist groups don’t need control of territory to inspire attacks halfway around the world. | | | | | Chicago aldermen came together to engage in the city’s budget process and assert their authority as a co-equal branch of government. | | | | | If I didn’t know better, I’d swear the Chicago sports scene shows real promise. | | | |
