Signs of life
The Raiders were competitive against the Houston Texans in a 23-21 loss, playing solid defense and getting the breakout performance from rookie running back Ashton Jeanty that everyone in the organization had been waiting on. There haven’t been many positives this season. But Sunday provided a glimpse at what could be if they build a functional offense around their young stars.

Big-play ability
Ashton Jeanty never lost confidence in his ability to make special things happen on the football field. The first-round pick had 188 total yards and scored two long touchdowns against the Texans, one of the NFL’s elite defenses.

Draft update
The loss dropped the Raiders to an NFL-worst 2-13, the same record as the New York Giants. Those teams go head-to-head on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium with the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft possibly at stake.
