How strange that the end of the year is here. And what a (mostly harrowing) year it’s been! But in the darkest of hours, it’s been a welcome reprieve to scan StreetEasy and sort through Craigslist scams with your dream apartment in mind. Thanks for visiting weekly and supporting my prewar pipe dreams and aspirational loft life. This week was as random as a flamingo walking through a hardware store (am I okay) — from Washington Heights to the more suburban pockets of Ridgewood and Riverdale to the unaffordably fabulous West Chelsea. Holiday sublets at the bottom — see you next year!

$2,895, 2-bedroom: Carriage house of my dreams from the outside, renovation of my (not quite) nightmare on the inside. There’s potential here, for sure. |

$2,550, 1-bedroom: Technically “Hudson Heights” which feels like an unnecessary distinction to me. Good parquet and prewar curves, very bad bathroom! Like the price point, though.
$3,952, 3-bedroom: Palatial with windows at every turn. Bad bathroom again, damn it. |

$3,100, 1-bedroom: Another palatial, light-drenched showplace … have listed before, move on this one, people!
$3,450, 1-bedroom: I considered hiring this guy to rip this place apart but didn’t have time to do the outreach … so I’ll leave you with some keywords of what not to include in your apartment: hanging Edison bulbs, recessed lighting, and park-bench backing.
$3,850, 1-bedroom: Good prewar, bad lighting — get over it.
$3,895, 3-bedroom: Hard to get over the natural light and original finishes and bedrooms-to-price ratio … |

$2,550, 1-bedroom: Lobby-of-the-week award, plus the added benefit of an adorable apartment with a less-than-desirable color palette.
$4,800, 3-bedroom: Freestanding-house alert! A little bit of a gray treatment, sadly. |

$5,800, 3-bedroom: Many ugly finishes, but the suburban flourishes are calling my name — newly paved patio, wood-burning fireplace, garage — would have to do something about the linoleum in the bedroom, however. |

$4,200, 3-bedroom: Not a lot of windows nor explanation, but I like the roof outside the window and wonder if that’s technically outdoor space.
$5,500, 3-bedroom: Very thorough and very modern renovation — but I don’t hate it! Central air and a kitchen that connects to the patio. |
