Preparing for company?

Hi Anne!

Do you have family or friends visiting within the next week?

Does it feel like you’re drowning in your to-do list?

I know I am. I actually just checked something off my to-cook list today… which might somehow be longer than my to-do list!

I love this time of year, but man… It can feel overwhelming.

And I know this last week before Christmas is the craziest of them all. That’s why I’m emailing you today! I want to help you get through it.

Here's something that has really helped me ⬇️

Take a minute and write out the next nine days, starting with today, like this:

Now, on a separate page, make your to-do list and write down everything that needs to get done between now and Christmas.

Next, take each item from your to-do list and assign it to a specific day in the order it needs to be done. Try to spread things out evenly so no single day feels overwhelming.

Here’s what mine looks like:

After you do this, I can almost guarantee you’ll feel a little less overwhelmed.

Long to-do lists tend to do the opposite of what we want. The minute we see everything written out in this long exhausting list, our cortisol goes up and we start to panic.

Everything feels urgent and heavy, and it’s hard to know where to even start.

But when you assign each task to a specific day, it feels a little less intimidating. Instead of juggling 20 things in your head at one time, you only have to focus on what needs to get done today. That’s it.

The rest already has its place, so your brain doesn't have to keep reminding you about it at 11pm when you're trying to fall asleep
