Brown U. shooting highlights campus security concerns
The shooting at Brown University has heightened concerns about campus security, with attention turning to the ease of access to university buildings and whether current safety measures are sufficient to protect students and staff. Yale, Columbia and Harvard have all increased security. The Brown shootings, which killed 2, came at the end of a year of high-profile campus shootings, with two deaths in April at Florida State, one killed in December at Kentucky State and the murder of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley in September.

DeSantis proposes expanding New College with USF campus
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has proposed transferring the University of South Florida's Sarasota-Manatee campus to New College of Florida as part of his 2026-27 budget. The move would provide New College with over 32 acres of land, new facilities, and address student housing issues. The proposal, which requires legislative approval, is part of DeSantis's efforts to transform New College into a more conservative institution. However, it faces criticism for its high administrative costs and declining retention rates.

Ohio's Wright State aviation program sees enrollment surge
Wright State University's School of Aviation in Dayton, Ohio, has experienced notable growth since launching its aviation degrees in fall 2024. The program currently enrolls 47 students, with 210 applicants already seeking admission for fall 2026.
