I got the same email 3 times last week.

And I know exactly why.

What separated them wasn’t the tool.

Here are the 3 biggest lies I kept seeing:

Lie #1: “AI personalization works”

It doesn’t. Not if it’s surface-level.

“Congrats on the funding” isn’t personalization. It’s noise.

The teams winning with AI did this instead: “Saw you’re hiring 3 sales engineers, are you rebuilding post-acquisition or scaling net-new?”

That’s relevance.
That’s insight.

AI can pull signals.
But you have to connect the dots.

Lie #2: “Let AI write it all”

Nope. AI writes average by default.

It gives you the bones. You bring the voice, the punch, the offer, the reason to care.

Here’s a rewrite one AE made:

AI version: “Hi [Name], wanted to see if you’re open to exploring new tools for X…”

AE version: “Saw your team’s rolling out HubSpot, are you keeping the old slow workflows or rebuilding them from scratch?”

Same goal. One sounds like a person. The other like a script.

Lie #3: “Speed wins”

Only if the message is good.

Most teams are using AI to blast more, and bad.

That’s not scale. That’s noise.

Best reps use AI to go deeper, not wider.

One AE built a 4-step email chain in 15 mins.
Each email is tied to a real signal.
Reply rate: 4,4%.

Use AI to compress the thinking, not skip it.

AI isn’t your cold email strategy.
It’s just a tool.

Treat it like a junior rep:

• Feed it smart inputs
• Never trust the first draft
• Edit with intent
