Boris Arencibia and Jose Armando Rivera Garcia of Miami each have been sentenced to 57 months in prison for their roles in separate but related drug diversion schemes. The schemes involved sales of approximately $28 million worth of diverted pharmaceuticals, including medications for HIV and cancer. The drugs were purchased from illicit sources and sold to pharmacies across the US with falsified documentation to mask their origins, prosecutors said.

Fla. NP sentenced to prison for fraud, drug distribution
Nurse practitioner Anja Salamack of Delray Beach, Fla., was sentenced to 18 months in prison and one year of home detention for health care fraud and unlawful drug distribution as part of the Justice Department's 2025 National Health Care Fraud Takedown. Salamack, who authorities said submitted false claims for services she didn't provide and prescribed amphetamines outside the usual course of practice, was ordered to pay more than $160,000 in restitution.

Healthix, a health information exchange managing data from more than 21 million patients in New York, is piloting an AI assistant from InterSystems to help clinicians access and understand patient data quickly. Clinicians can give the system verbal or written prompts to create customized patient summaries. Healthix CEO Todd Rogow says the tool saved time and yielded actionable insights in a usability study.

Opinion: Use of agentic AI in insurance to grow rapidly
The use of AI within the insurance industry "will be extremely prolific" soon, potentially within less than two years, automating tasks in areas such as policy creation and claims resolution, writes Doug Marquis of Zywave. However, agentic AI poses many of the same challenges as traditional AI -- including potential data bias and regulatory issues -- meaning that "there will always be the need for humans to be involved to ensure decisions are made correctly," Marquis writes.

MedPAC proposes 0.5% increase in physician reimbursement
