Dear Travel Fan, Happy Thanksgiving! If you are traveling, I hope things have been going smoothly (but if you do need help, we’ve got you). We’re heading into the winter travel season and, really, you have two options. Embrace the cold, or escape it. Whichever choice you make, we’ve got suggestions — and ideas on how you can save money. For escapers, this week our Frugal Traveler explores the Caribbean island of St. Martin/St. Maarten, with its glorious beaches and views, while keeping to a budget. And our 36 Hours visits the temperate city of San Antonio, with its inviting River Walk and rich history. For embracers, we take a look at discount ski passes and programs that can get you on the slopes for less. We also go behind the scenes at a ski mountain for a peek into all the work that goes into getting the slopes ready each day. There’s been a lot of news in the travel world this week. The latest buzzword when it comes to using artificial intelligence for travel is “agentic.” What does it mean, and should you use it? We explain. Sean Duffy, the transportation secretary, has launched a campaign to get travelers to dress — and behave — better on airplanes, calling for a return to travel’s Golden Age. What was that like? The Ritz-Carlton hotel brand recently opened a safari camp in the Maasai Mara reserve in Kenya that it describes as the peak of luxury. But locals, including some Maasai, say that it blocks a corridor animals use on the Great Migration. They have sued to get the camp shut down. And as international travel to the United States has lagged this year, tourism to the classic western landscape of Monument Valley has also fallen. The Navajo control tourism in that area, and they have been hit hard by the downturn. Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend and I hope all your travels go smoothly,
