Good afternoon,
Universities and the training sector have savaged unfettered new powers that would allow the federal Education Minister to mass-cancel courses "in the public interest".
The education integrity bill before parliament would let Jason Clare eliminate entire fields of study if he deemed a course provided limited value to Australia's skills needs, in what has been labelled "political intervention".
Also, the Cape York Partnership has released the results of a report on the life trajectories and income of 625 students who participated in its Leadership Program over the past 20 years.
Group chief executive Fiona Jose sees the results as proof that Indigenous disadvantage can end, one person at a time, in one generation.
This week, four Australian universities rated among the top 20 globally in the latest QS World University Rankings for sustainability, despite a "room to improve" markdown for environmental research.
