WFP warns of rising hunger amid funding shortfall
A deepening global hunger crisis is expected to affect 318 million people in 2026 -- more than twice as many as in 2019 -- the World Food Program warns, noting that it has plans to assist just 110 million due to a funding shortfall. "This is completely unacceptable in the 21st century. Hunger is becoming more entrenched. We know early, effective solutions save lives, but we desperately need more support," WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain says.

Opinion: Indigenous voices marginalized in climate talks
Immaculata Casimero, a leader from the Wapichan Women's Movement in Guyana, is calling for greater Indigenous representation at COP30 talks, warning that global climate negotiations often exclude Indigenous voices, despite these communities being directly impacted by decisions on mining and resource extraction. Nonprofit organizations across the US are experiencing heightened anxiety as the Trump administration intensifies its rhetoric and actions against the sector. Many groups are self-censoring, worried that public advocacy or criticism could make them targets for investigations or funding cuts. The climate of unpredictability, combined with explicit threats and hostile language from both the White House and Congress, has led to widespread anxiety. Some leaders are concerned that even indirect associations, like collaboration with other nonprofits or public statements, could jeopardize their organizations' survival.

Refugees, migrants are not the same, UNHCR emphasizes
The UN High Commission for Refugees is leveraging a "route-based approach" to address the overlapping but distinct challenges faced by refugees and migrants. While both groups often travel along the same paths, they have different needs, the UNHCR warns as it works to counter public misconceptions and policy trends that treat all people on the move as a single group. "Refugees can't go home. Migrants: They may not want to go home, but they can go home without suffering persecution or war," says UNHCR Director of International Protection Elizabeth Tan.
