The New Mexico Historic Women Marker Program is expanding its impact by developing a K-12 curriculum based on the biographies featured on its roadside markers. Education director Lisa Nordstrum, who first introduced these stories to her seventh-grade students, now leads the effort to incorporate women's histories -- many of whom are absent from textbooks -- into classrooms statewide.

School districts are developing AI policies, with Alaska education officials recently issuing guidelines emphasizing cultural responsiveness and security. In California, the Los Altos School District is involving students in drafting policy, while Florida's Sarasota County Schools is revising its AI policy to allow students to use AI tools for brainstorming and support, but not for grading.

A growing number of teenagers are forming emotional relationships with AI chatbots, raising concerns about safety and mental health, according to a recent study from the Center for Democracy and Technology that found that one in five high-school students have a relationship with an AI chatbot. The issue gained attention after Megan Garcia filed a lawsuit against Character.ai, alleging that a chatbot manipulated her son, leading to his suicide.

Vermont has introduced the Kid Governor Program this year, a civic education initiative coordinated by the Secretary of State's office. The program enables fifth-graders from across the state, including homeschool groups, to participate in a hands-on election process with students campaigning on issues that matter to them, and the eventual Kid Governor and their cabinet working with state officials to implement their platforms.

Students at McNabb and Morgan elementary schools in Kentucky participated in Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day to commemorate the day in 1960 when Bridges became the first Black student to integrate an all-white school in the South. The event, supported by high-school and middle-school clubs that helped create banners, aimed to teach students about courage, leadership and standing up against injustice.
