The Wildcat Weekly - November 2, 2025

Centreville Students, Families, and Community,

I hope all our Wildcat families had a fun and safe Halloween! Last week, our students and staff once again proved that you’re never too old to dress up and celebrate. From the King of Asgard to Minions to the Magic School Bus crew, Friday’s festivities brought incredible energy and smiles throughout the building. It was a wonderful reminder that while hard work is important, it’s equally vital to embrace the moments that bring us joy each day.

I’d like to extend heartfelt congratulations to our Boys and Girls Volleyball teams on seasons filled with growth, perseverance, and teamwork as they wrapped up play last week at the Concorde District Tournament. A huge shout-out as well to our Cheer team for an outstanding season and for giving it their all at the Northern Region Tournament on Saturday. Each of these teams demonstrated dedication, school spirit, and sportsmanship, and truly represented the best of the Centreville community.

As we begin the second quarter, I’d like to ask for our families’ continued support in emphasizing the importance of regular, on-time attendance. Consistent attendance has a powerful impact not only on individual student achievement but also on the success of our school community as a whole. Punctuality and reliability are lifelong skills that will serve our students well both here at Centreville and in their future endeavors. Thank you for your continued partnership and encouragement in this area.

Finally, in the spirit of collaboration, I invite all students, staff, and families to join us for the PTSA meeting on November 18, where Dr. Reid will share updates on the Centreville High School renovation project. This exciting renovation will benefit both current and future Wildcats, and we encourage everyone to attend and stay informed.

Thank you and Go Wildcats!

Dr. Erik Healey, Principal

Wonderful Wildcats

AVID

Inaugural AVID Signing Day: AVID Signing Day is an event that brought together our 9th grade AVID students and Liberty’s AVID students. During this celebration, our students wrote heartfelt letters to their families, committing to their continuous effort and growth in their education. They spoke not only about the strategies they are learning to support their success, but also about the meaningful relationships they’ve built with one another and with their teachers. Our students gave a special shout-out to Ms. Hampton, who has paved the way for this inaugural class of AVID students. This evening was a powerful reflection of our shared priorities as a school: high-quality instruction, a positive school climate, and our commitment to getting better, together.

Students and families will be able to have conversations with teachers from each department about the course offerings so students can make the most informed decisions about their course selections for 2026-2027.

Important Information from FCPS

Election Day is Next Week. Make a Voting Plan!: The 2025 Bond Referendum will be on the ballot on Tuesday, November 4. Remember to vote. Learn how bonds help build strong communities

On November 4, Fairfax County voters will see a $460 million School Bond Referendum on the ballot. But what does that mean? Just like a family takes out a mortgage to buy a home, Fairfax County sells bonds to fund big school projects like renovations, new buildings, and sustainability upgrades. Bonds simply allow us to spread the cost of major school improvements over time. These funds don't come from the annual FCPS operating budget. And...these bonds aren't likely to raise your local taxes, thanks to the guidelines that the county has put in place for managing debt responsibly.

Download the New FCPS Mobile App!: The FCPS mobile app offers a customized platform to help keep families connected and informed, directly from their smartphones. Impact of Federal Shutdown on Local Community: Fairfax County is home to around 80,000 federal employees and thousands of federal contractors. Services for Hearing-Impaired and Visually-Impaired Students: Students with sensory disabilities require special services and support to access instruction that is typically presented auditorily (by means of hearing) and visually. FCPS provides educational services to students who are deaf, hearing-impaired, or visually impaired. They are supported in various settings, including at their school site or through itinerant specialists who travel to different schools to work with students, rather than being based in a single school.
