Oak View Review
News and Notes: October 10, 2025
Students launching rockets.

Oak View students soared to new heights this week while launching baking soda rockets on Thursday as part of the second annual Arm & Hammer Baking Soda Rocket Day!

Thanks to all of those that Walked and Rolled to school on Wednesday in the rain. We were excited to have GMU Softball join us for the first of many visits.

It's been another great week in the nest!

Early Release, October 15, 12:15 p.m.

Our next Early Release is Wednesday, October 15. Students who were dismissed at 12:15 p.m. in September will continue to be dismissed at that time unless families have already contacted the school to request daycare due to a hardship. Changes should only be made for emergency situations next week, as last-minute updates slow down the dismissal process. Students needing supervision will stay at Oak View with designated staff until 3:15 p.m. Families requiring supervision were contacted to confirm their continued need.

Upcoming AAP Informational Sessions

Families are invited to the following Advanced Academic Program informational sessions.  These will be run by Kathryn Moreno-Dunk, our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher and will be held one hour prior to the PTA meetings in the library.

  • October 14, 6-7 p.m. – Continuum of Services: Overview of the K-12 offerings of AAP in FCPS.  *This meeting does not go into detail on the full-time screening process.
  • November 12, 6-7 p.m. – Full-Time Referrals: Information on the identification and screening process for full-time services.

Important deadlines

  • October 15 - Fall Full-Time Referral Forms. Students in grades 3-6 new to FCPS since January of 2025.
  • December 15 - Spring Full-Time Referral Forms. Students in grades 2-6. *The NGAT score report may not be available before the deadline. It is recommended that families complete a referral form if they are interested in full-time services even if NGAT scores are not available.

Storybook Pumpkin Festival

All students are invited to celebrate great books by decorating pumpkins as storybook characters. Pumpkins will be displayed in the display case outside the library and on top of the library shelves from October 14-31. Pumpkins can be dropped off at the library on any day during that window. On October 31, students can pick up their pumpkins or ask their friendly librarian to make them disappear. Find out more information by visiting our Storybook Pumpkin website.
