Dear Waynewood Owls,
What a wonderfully busy week it’s been at Waynewood Elementary!
Our 2nd graders had an adventure this week on their field trip to the Postal Museum. It was a memorable hands-on experience that brought their social studies lessons to life. They worked together to solve a real-life postal design challenge. Their creativity and teamwork were on full display! They had a truly "first-class" time! Meanwhile, our 4th graders reached for the stars during Arm & Hammer's Baking Soda Rocket Day. The excitement, scientific inquiry, and pure joy on their faces as those chemical reactions propelled their rockets was truly inspiring. These are the moments that make elementary school so magical.
Speaking of magic, our Book Fair has been an enormous success! Seeing so many students excitedly choose new books (and all those shiny trinkets, haha)for their home libraries is a testament to the love of reading we share here at Waynewood. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our incredible PTA Book Fair Chairs, Kristi Jamrisko Gross and Katie Philipp, who volunteered their time and energy into making this event a success. We also want to shine a spotlight on our phenomenal librarian, Valerie Krause, and all the parents who volunteered to organize and run the fair. Your commitment makes a world of difference!
As we look ahead, please note a few important scheduling reminders. There is no school on Monday as we observe Indigenous Peoples' Day. Our dedicated teachers will be participating in professional development that day, continually working to hone their skills for our students. Also, next Wednesday will be a 3-hour early release for students.
The rest of the week is packed with Waynewood traditions. Thursday is Field Day! Our energetic 6th graders have taken on a fantastic leadership role and will be running the activity stations for all of their younger peers. Please make sure your children wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and are ready for some fun!
Finally, we'll cap off the week on Friday with our Jog-A-Thon Prize Day! Our students will participate in a spooky surprise assembly. We crushed our fundraising goal, and to celebrate this fantastic achievement, we will also have a School Spirit Day. Be sure to wear your Waynewood gear or our school colors, green and white, as we celebrate our collective success.
Have a safe and restful long weekend, and we look forward to a week of learning and celebration!
Sincerely,
Katie Cachine, Principal
Alyssa Bonner, Assistant Principal
Allison Ovalle, Assistant Principal
Fourth grade classes recently took part in Arm & Hammer Rocket Day, a hands on event in the Lab special with Mrs. Sullivan. This engaging project integrated our curriculum with the development of essential Portrait of a Graduate skills, all while learning some cool science and launching rockets. A major focus of the day was demonstrating that every role on the launch team is critical for mission success. Students formally applied for specific launch team jobs, giving them a real-world experience in collaboration and responsibility. Each role demanded a unique set of skills. Students could apply for mission director, communications specialist, safety specialist, fuel specialist, and structural engineer. The experience reinforced that clear communication, shared responsibility and meticulous planning are essential for a successful launch. We’re so proud of our fourth graders for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and spectacular critical and creative thinking skills. The resulting launches were a testament to their hard work.

Some classes won time with alpacas today for their Jog-A-Thon efforts! The students had a great time petting and feeding the alpacas. They were so soft and friendly.
Thank you to everyone who donated to our Jog-A-Thon, and to our amazing PTA!
