Images from Rocket Day!

Good afternoon, Lorton Station families!

Rocket Day was a hit, and I hope your child came home and shared not only their experiences but the Rocket Day do-it-yourself kit flyer. The students yelled and cheered as each rocket took flight, and sometimes a rocket exploded on a staff member, to the joy of our students :)  If you have a chance over the next few weekends, take a moment and replicate the rockets at home, and watch the pleasure explode from your child.

Lorton Station has launched our SHOW UP AND SHINE Attendance Challenge with a special emphasis on our Attendance Spirit Week. Strong attendance is vital to the academic and emotional well-being of every student in school. When a child misses 10% or more of school per year, it significantly impacts their ability to develop as readers, acquire critical thinking skills, become writers, and understand complex math concepts. We want to partner with our families to join our SHOW UP AND SHINE Challenge to ensure your child maintains a 90% or higher attendance every month.

Quick highlights:

  • No Cost Meals on Monday for all students
  • Principal Coffee Night Meeting
  • Early Release Wednesday 1 PM Dismissal
  • Children's Science Night Upcoming

Helpful reminders:

  • Attendance is crucial to your child's successful academic progress. A child who misses 10% or more of the school year is more likely to be one or more grade levels below their peers in reading and math.
  • Math homework is a practice tool for students to reinforce current content. If your child is struggling with their math homework, please contact your teacher for support.
  • Twenty minutes of reading a night can improve your child's reading ability by more than a grade level by the end of the school year.

From your administration

Dr. Legagneur, Mr. Barton, and Ms. Champion

We are excited to welcome the Children's Science Lab Night back to Lorton Station on October 28 from 6 - 7:30 PM. It is a fantastic event, where the Children's Science Lab provides us with all the experiments and support, allowing our families to enjoy a fun-filled evening of science. We NEED parent volunteers to help supervise the stations for the night. If you are available to volunteer for the night, please complete the FCPS volunteer form, and we will add you to the evening's schedule. We need parent volunteers to make this successful. Below is the listed timeline:

  • 5:15 PM Volunteers Arrive and Set Up
  • 6:00 PM Activities Open

  • 7:30 PM Activities Close and Clean Up

  • 7:45 PM Volunteers/Staff Leave
