Message from Mrs. Burke

Hello Edison Families,

Next week is one of the most exciting weeks of the year—Homecoming Week! This year’s theme is “Night in the City.” We kicked things off today with Tourist Day, and it was great to see so many “visitors” exploring the halls of Edison with their cameras, fanny packs, and sun hats.

Before we look ahead, I want to take a moment to celebrate some of our incredible staff. This past Wednesday, we recognized several Edison staff members at the Impact Awards, which honor employees committed to collaboration, equity, innovation, and student achievement.

  • Our Safety and Security Team was recognized in the Category of Collaboration and Partnership for their work keeping our building safe, building strong relationships with students and staff, and being a model for all of FCPS with our safety and security practices.

  • Mr. Stringham was recognized with an Individual Impact Award in the category of Collaboration and Partnerships for his outstanding work with his HVAC students in the Academy.

  • Mrs. Hall, our cosmetology teacher, was recognized with an Individual Impact Award in the category of Achievement and Success for her dedication to students and for providing services to students throughout the school day.

We’re very proud of these staff members and grateful for their hard work and commitment to our community.

A quick reminder:
Monday is a student holiday for a staff development day. We’ll see everyone back on Tuesday for Jersey Day, so pull out your favorite team’s jersey and wear it with pride.

On Wednesday, we’ll have Anything But a Backpack Day, where students get creative and carry their school items in unconventional ways. That evening, we’ll host the Eagle Bowl, where our juniors and seniors face off in a spirited game of flag football. The fun starts at 6:00 p.m. on the football field.

Thursday is Theme Day, with each class representing a different city:

  • Seniors – New York City

  • Juniors – Miami

  • Sophomores – Rio

  • Freshmen – Los Angeles

Thursday evening is also our Follies, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Each class has prepared skits tied to the theme that always get plenty of laughs—often at the staff’s expense.

On Friday, we’ll come together for Spirit Day:

  • Seniors wear red

  • Juniors wear blue

  • Sophomores wear black

  • Freshmen wear white

We’ll end the school day with a Pep Rally, featuring class competitions and plenty of school spirit to kick off the weekend.

Friday night is our Homecoming Football Game against Falls Church, and it’s a Red Out, so wear red and fill the stands. All students must show either a student ID or StudentVUE on their phone to enter the game. At halftime, we’ll announce the winners of the Homecoming competitions and crown our Homecoming Royals.

Finally, the Homecoming Dance is on Saturday, October 18, from 8:00–11:00 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance; they will not be sold at the door. Please remember there’s no entry after 9:30 p.m.

Homecoming Week always brings a lot of energy and school spirit. We look forward to celebrating with everyone throughout the week.

Have a great weekend!

Amanda Burke

Paperless Report Cards

We’re excited to offer you a more convenient option for receiving your child’s report cards: Go Paperless!

By choosing to go paperless, you'll be able to:

  • Access report cards directly in ParentVUE with just a few clicks.
  • Reduce wait time in seeing your child’s report card.

Here's how you can opt-in:

  1. Log into ParentVUE, click on "My Account," and select “Go Paperless.”
  2. All parents/guardians living with the student at the same address must have an active SIS ParentVUE account to opt-in.
  3. Once selected, the “Go Paperless” option will apply to all associated students, no matter their grade level.
  4. If you’ve already opted for paperless for your secondary students, it will automatically apply to any younger siblings at the elementary level too!

Parent/Guardian Permission for Student to Regularly Miss Instruction Time

Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to fostering a caring culture where each and every student can thrive in a learning environment where they feel welcome and a sense of belonging.

In alignment with FCPS Regulation 1502,  Schools ensure that students and staff of all religious backgrounds have reasonable accommodation and access to meditation and silent reflection space within the school building.

FCPS supports students who need to take time during the school day to practice as their faith requires. If your student needs to be excused from a portion of at least one class to meditate and pray, please complete the form linked below.  This means that your student would regularly miss instructional time. By doing so, your student will be responsible for all work that needs to be completed or made up.

School students can access our designated space during the instructional time with parent/guardian authorization. By completing this form, you are acknowledging that you understand your student may be missing daily instruction time.

Congratulations to Edison's Security Team for receiving a Team Impact Award at the FCPS IMPACT Awards Ceremony on Wednesday.

They won in the Category of Collaboration and Partnership for their work keeping our building safe, building relationships with students and staff, and being a model for all of FCPS with our safety and security practices.

Congratulations security team!

IB Information

We are pleased to announce that our IB Diploma Coordinator, Ms. Devers, will be visiting all 9th and 10th-grade advisories between September 24 and December 19 to discuss the different IB Program options available to students in their junior and senior years.

During her visit, Ms. Devers will explain the structure, requirements, and benefits of both the full IB Diploma and the IB Career-related Programme (CP) to help students plan their high school journey.

Students were asked to complete a brief interest plan during the advisory session to indicate their preferred path and help Ms. Devers tailor follow-up discussions:

  • Students interested in pursuing the full IB Diploma Candidate path were encouraged to circle Theory of Knowledge (TOK) on their sheet.
  • Students interested in learning more about the Career-related Programme (CP) were asked to write "CP" at the bottom of their sheet.

Please encourage your student to talk to you about the information they received. If your child expressed interest, Ms. Devers will follow up with them regarding more detailed information sessions.

If you have any questions, you can contact Ms. Devers directly at sddevers@fcps.edu.

FCPS Youth Survey to 10th and 12th grade students

Edison High School will be administering the FCPS Youth Survey to 10th and 12th grade students on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, during an extended Advisory period. It provides a wealth of information about a variety of topics related to our youth that influence their physical and mental well being, from sleep and nutritional habits to substance abuse behaviors to symptoms of depression.

If you would like for your 10th or 12th grade student to be opted out, please see the below website, and click on the section for Parent Opt-Out Letters. Select the letter for grades 8, 10, and 12, and send the printed and signed form in to your student's counselor by Friday, Nov. 7, 2025.

2026-27 FAFSA Form Now Open

Federal Student Aid has made the 2026-27 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available ahead of the scheduled release date. Any college-bound high school senior — regardless of income — who wants to be considered for federal, state, and school financial aid programs should complete a FAFSA form. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to work with their students to complete the FAFSA as early as possible. Check each college’s financial aid office website for deadlines and financial aid forms. Then, create an account, if you have not already done so, and fill out the FAFSA

The Virginia Alternative State Aid (VASA) application has not yet opened but should be available in late January for students who are unable to complete the FAFSA. To help determine which aid option is right for you, visit the
