Flower petition: A North Coast flower farmer is calling for mandatory country-of-origin labelling for flowers sold in Australia. Kathy Sheeran from Plumtree Floral Farm at Upper Burringbar hopes her petition will gather the 20,000 signatures needed to force politicians to address the issue in parliament. She says about 50 per cent of flowers sold in Australia come from overseas and consumers have the right to know the source of their flowers.

Plane door left open: Jetstar says a rear cargo door left open before a flight took off from Sydney to Ballina on Tuesday posed no safety risk to passengers. Surf life-saving emergencies: Surf Life Saving NSW says a recent decision to stop its beach patrol is in line with policies and procedures. Lifeguards at Brunswick Heads recently had to abandon their beach patrol to assist with a rescue at New Brighton. A group of boys was caught in a rip at a beach a few kilometres north of the lifeguard planned patrol position. Northern NSW Lifeguard Coordinator Scott McCartney says while this doesn't often happen, lifeguards have to go where they are most needed.

He says it's mostly eastern brown snakes responsible for the cases he's seeing at his clinic. |
