October is here!!

On Tuesday, we welcomed back our amazing assistant principal, Rachel Forte! Students and staff were so excited to see her again! We are very happy to have her positive energy back in the building each day.

Throughout this week, students were busy across all content areas! Students spent time in our literacy lab as they wrapped up Unit 2 of Benchmark, focused on understanding characters. In STEAM, students dissected owl pellets to look for animal bones. In math, many grade levels have been learning more about computation like adding and subtracting.

This month at CES, we will have a social-emotional learning focus on Self Management. Self management means not only being aware of your thoughts and feelings, but also knowing how to control them to reach your goals and handle difficult situations. We encourage students and families to talk together about how self management help us all. Watch this video to learn more!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Jen, Rachel and Katelyn

This year, our front display case will incorporate a collaborative approach between CES teachers and families. We will use the FCPS recognized heritage and celebration months. Families and CES staff are invited to share books, artifacts, pictures, etc. for each month.

Windows represent the opportunities we have to learn about different cultures, abilities and backgrounds. Mirrors represent children feeling valued and gives them a sense of belonging which can help validate their own experiences and identities. Doors represent experiencing another life and promotes empathy.

We will celebrate Disability History and Awareness Month in October. Please sign-up HERE if you are interested in helping!

As part of the 4th Grade Science curriculum, students dissected owl pellets.  For the first time in years we found bird remains in the owl pellets!  The students are very excited!

walk

When families decide to lace up their sneakers or strap on their helmets to get to school instead of riding in a car, they help reduce the amount of air pollutants emitted by automobiles.

Vehicles emit a variety of air pollutants, resulting in increases in ground-level ozone, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter such as particles of dust, soot, smoke, dirt and liquid droplets.

Please consider walking or rolling to school at CES, on Wed, October 8th morning!
