Diving Into New Learning and Building Community

It's been another focused week at FHS as many classes have kicked off exciting new units of study. Following last week's progress reports, it was PAWSome to see so many of our students making proactive action plans for success—a true demonstration of our commitment to growth and accountability.

The week was filled with appreciation and connection:

  • Custodian Appreciation Week: We had a wonderful time celebrating with our custodians this week. Their hard work and dedication ensure our school remains a beautiful, safe, and welcoming space for all. Please join us in thanking them for their commitment!
  • MLL Family Engagement: We were thrilled to begin our English classes for our Multilingual Learner families and were excited to welcome thirty-four families to FHS! Building these language and community connections is vital to our students' success.
  • Principal's Coffee: This morning, I enjoyed hosting my Principal's Coffee, where we discussed many exciting topics, including the wide array of college readiness options available for all students.

Honoring Our Military Families

We were excited to celebrate Blue Star Welcome Week and hosted a military mixer with our students. This evening, that celebration continues at our football game where we will be honoring those who are currently serving and have served our nation. It's an important opportunity to recognize the sacrifices of our military families, which are such a vital part of the Fairfax High School community.

Important Testing and Schedule Reminder

Please remember that the PSAT and SAT will be held next Tuesday, October 8th.

  • All students registered to test will be released after the exam is finished.
  • Our 9th-grade students will have an asynchronous school day on October 8th.

Have a FAIRFAX FABULOUS weekend!

Celebrating our Military-Connected Students

Blue Star students

We hosted a meet and greet today with some of our Military-connected students. It was a great way for them to get to know each other and feel supported. These young people face unique challenges, from frequent moves and adapting to new schools to managing the deployment of a parent or family member.

FHS is committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for these students and families. If you are a military family that could use extra support or resources, please reach out to Mrs. Cate, 703-219-2223, or  vmcate@fcps.edu or Ms. Anderson, abanderson@fcps.edu.

Thank you, military families, for your service and sacrifice!
