School News

The Family Resource Center together with the Office of Student Safety and Wellness cordially invites you to their inaugural Red Ribbon Awareness Open House. Recognizing that many families may feel uncertain about discussing substance use with their children, this event aims to equip attendees with essential resources and confidence. The event will feature current, age-appropriate information on common substances of abuse, along with practical communication techniques. After the presentation, participants will have the opportunity of receiving a private tour of the FRC library and browse through our pre-selected resources. Narcan training will be offered. No registration needed.

Great day of service and fun! Our West Potomac Leadership and AVID students volunteered at Hollin Meadows Elementary's Field Day, helping to make the event a success for all the young students. Proud of their dedication and commitment!

What’s New about the ACT?

Plenty! Applerouth tutors have taken the new Enhanced ACT (eACT) and share their thoughts below.

The ACT is Changing: What the Enhanced ACT Means for Juniors and Seniors by The Applerouth Team, August 8, 2025, 5 min read.

The Enhanced ACT: The Good, The Bad, and What Your Students Want to Know by Christine Ingari, August 20, 2025, 2 min read.

To Science or Not to Science? Navigating the Biggest Change to the New ACT by The Applerouth Team, April 28, 2025, 3 min read.

New enhanced ACT (eACT) Mocks at West Po are currently being offered in the paper and pencil version as the new, official *digital* version of the eACT has not yet achieved a good user experience. Applerouth is not advising anyone to take the official eACT digitally, if they can avoid it.

eACT pdf – Talks about the design of the new eACT and compares the eACT to the Legacy ACT (the old version).

SAT vs. new eACT Comparison Chart – offers a detailed comparison of the two tests. With all these changes, give the eACT a try with a mock test!

2025/26 Official Test Dates and Deadlines – A handy list to help you plan your testing dates and prep.

SAT/eACT Concordance Table – helps you compare your SAT and eACT scores to determine test strength. If you take both the SAT and eACT mock relatively close together and score 70 points or less difference (using the Concordance Table), that is considered equal strength in both tests.

What the 2025/26 Test Prep Program Offers

Mock TestsTake a mock of both the SAT and eACT to see which one is right for you! Once you know your test strength or preference you can plan your official testing dates and prep. Most students score higher taking the official test three times.

Small Group SAT Classes - Target prep for the 3/14/26, or 6/6/26 official SAT test dates. In-person, laptop required.

Small Group eACT Classes – Until the West Po community shows more interest in the in-person eACT classes on campus, Applerouth has agreed to enroll students in their scheduled online with live tutor eACT classes, as available, and honor the West Po Group Class Price. Contact Marilyn Aboff, marilynaboff@yahoo.com for class options.

Online Self-Paced Classes - This comprehensive online course gives you everything you need to raise your SAT or ACT score, stay motivated, and have fun doing it – all from the comfort of home and on your own schedule. One-year license, unlimited access. Applerouth's new enhanced ACT self-paced course will be available at the end of October 2025, for updated eACT.

Scholarships - WPHS student need-based scholarships for mocks and classes are available through the College and Career Center Specialist, Karen B, Young, kbyoung1@fcps.edu
