Principal's Message

Hello Bruin families,

It's a big week for our community! Get ready for a mix of important academic milestones and some of the most fun traditions of the year. This week features our annual PSAT/SAT Day on Wednesday, which means an early-release for everyone, followed by a Homecoming celebration on Friday that will fill the hallways, the field, and the neighborhood with Bruin spirit! It's an action-packed few days, so please read on for all the details you'll need to stay organized.

Save the Date: Community Conversations with Superintendent Dr. Reid

Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life. 

A series of Community Conversations are being held across the school division to discuss current challenges and future opportunities. These events are also a chance for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events are planned for the following dates from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.:

Child care and interpretation services will be provided. Events are open to all.

Homecoming 2025

Homecoming is right around the corner and there are several events happening:

Friday, October 10

  • Pep Rally during the last period. 2nd and 8th periods will be flipped to accommodate this.
  • Homecoming Parade through the neighborhood, starting at the LB Community Association on Ashbourn Drive. Clubs and community groups are welcome to be a part of the Parade and should complete THIS FORM as soon as possible.
  • Bite of Braddock on the LB Blacktop following the parade. 
  • Varsity Football Game vs. Woodson, with kickoff at 7:00 pm

Saturday, October 11 - Homecoming Dance from 8:00-11:00 pm

Dance tickets are on eTix for $20; limited cash sales are available during gold day lunches. Please note that all volunteers must apply through the FCPS Volunteer Portal before helping at the dance. Dance volunteers can apply for Level 1 or 2 status.

Upcoming Parent Presentation Opportunity - CORRECTED LINK

In today's connected world, do you feel equipped to navigate online dangers with your student? Get the expert guidance you need at our upcoming parent night: "Online Safety Unlocked: What Every Parent Needs to Know."

Join us on Tuesday, October 14th, from 6-7 PM in the Lecture Hall for a special presentation led by a representative from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In partnership with the renowned online safety organization NetSmartz, this session will empower you with the knowledge to address topics like cyberbullying, online predators, and protecting your child's digital footprint. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity! RSVP is requested.


Picture Retakes

Victor O’Neill Studios is coming back for underclassmen portrait makeups/retakes on October 23, 2025. This session is open to those who meet the following criteria:

● Any student or staff member who was absent for the original session.

● Any new/transfer students or staff who joined after the original session.

● Any student/staff who was dissatisfied with their original picture day portrait.

Please note:

○ No purchase is necessary to retake photos. Any student may retake their photo for use in the yearbook.

○ Students retaking their portrait will not receive a new ID card, exceptions below.

○ The new portrait will replace their original yearbook portrait and then be available for purchase.

○ Students who previously purchased a photo package and would like to retake their photo MUST return their original photo package to the photographer in order to receive a new package. 

For students/staff who have issues with their ID card, we will reprint for those who meet the following criteria:

● Any student or staff member who did not receive an ID card at the original session.

● Any student who has incorrect/missing data on their ID card from the original session.

For students interested in joining the National Honor Society?

To be eligible to join the NHS, students must 

  • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
  • be a sophomore, junior, or senior (freshmen are not eligible for membership)
  • have a commitment to academic excellence, community service & leadership, and be active in school and extracurricular activities.

There will be two Interest Meetings: Wednesday October 15 and Friday October 17 during Bruin Block at 8:30 in the window-side of the Cafeteria.

Students must request a pass on the NHS Schoology Group page in order to attend.

An invitation to apply is not required.

The Lake Braddock Choral Department will host our annual fundraising concert “Dessert on Broadway” October 23th in the cafeteria. We encourage you to come when the doors open at 6:30 pm to enjoy a sweet treat and browse over an amazing selection of silent auction items and raffle prizes. The concert begins at 7 pm. Testing Information



October 8—School day PSAT/SAT Information to remember

A few reminders about Wednesday, October 8:

  • October 8 is a 2-hour early release day for high schools and secondary schools. 
  • PSAT/SAT administration begins in the morning, according to regular school start times. 
  • Absences are excused as defined by FCPS policy
  • High school academy courses are not held on October 8; high school academy staff support base school activities, and all high school shuttles are canceled on this date.
  • Students receiving low incidence special education services receive a normal instructional program if not participating in the PSAT/NMSQT or SAT School Day
  • Grade 7-8 students within secondary schools attend to receive instruction this day
  • Grade 9 students do not attend school this day 
  • Grade 10-11 students take the PSAT/NMSQT, with limited exceptions 
  • Grade 12 students were encouraged to register for the SAT; those choosing not to take the SAT do not attend school this day.  Registration closed on September 3.
  • Lunch will be Grab and Go at 12:30 with bus dismissal at 12:45

AP Testing Information

If your student is taking at least one AP course this school year, please make sure you are checking for important AP information found in two places:

- In Schoology: Make sure your student joins the LBSS AP Student 2025-2026 Group in Schoology by using this Access Code:

2025 Student Rights and Responsibilities 

FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. 

Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Tuesday, September 30.
