Such an outcry in my inbox lately for chicken pictures! This morning I managed to snap a few. The girls are molting, but even when they aren’t at their best, they’re all still beautiful to me. Toot could have all of her feathers off and still be the lovely, self-possessed, confident creature that she is. I feel like I have a lot to learn from her some days. This picture makes me think Penelope needs a little trim around her eyes so she can see better. Her feathers seem to have all come in at once! Red is gorgeous no matter what—never seems to molt or lose the delicious colors that manifested early on. I’m grateful for their happy company when we drink our coffee outside in the mornings. They’re a wonderful distraction from the more serious matters that continue to come fast and furious every day. For those of you observing the Jewish High Holidays—tonight is Yom Kippur—wishing you an easy fast. I’ll be back tomorrow night after sundown.
