The conference kicked off with a bang as our first keynote panelist, Irving Azoff, didn't hold back in his comments about YouTube. The iconic music mogul and chairman and CEO of The Azoff Company, went off on the video streaming giant, calling YouTube "a bully" that has only gotten worse over time. “I’m fiercely protective of artists' rights, and YouTube is by far the worst offender,” Azoff told our CEO and Editor-in-Chief Sharon Waxman on stage at the conference. But Azoff was just one highlight from the day, which featured a number of executives addressing the talk of the town: the idea of AI "actress" Tilly Norwood potentially getting representation. WME Group co-Chairman Richard Weitz said Norwood wouldn't have a future at the agency. Even Jon Zapp, head of entertainment, content and platforms at Google, a company all-in on AI, hit the breaks on the idea of synthetic actors. “I think that this is all evolving, but it’s not clear that just synthetic actors are adding utility of itself, so why do that?” he told me during our discussion of AI in filmmaking.
