Credit: Reuters | Israel's bombing of Gaza City intensified overnight ahead of the army announcing the start of a ground offensive. The assault comes as a report by a commission set up by the UN Human Rights Council has found that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, citing statements by Israeli leaders and the pattern of conduct by Israeli forces as evidence of genocidal intent. Israel's foreign ministry denounced the findings as "distorted and false". A spokesperson accused the three experts on the panel - chaired by Navi Pillay, who was president of the international tribunal on Rwanda's genocide - of serving as "Hamas proxies" and relying "entirely on Hamas falsehoods" that had "been thoroughly debunked". |
