Chatbots’ dangers: The US Federal Trade Commission plans to study the harms to children and others of AI-powered chatbots like those offered by OpenAI, Google and Meta. The review underscores the regulators’ interest in artificial intelligence despite administration directives to let the technology grow unimpeded.

DeepSeek’s progress: The Chinese-based AI startup is developing a model intended to carry out multistep actions on a person’s behalf with minimal direction from the user.

Broadcom’s outlook: Chief Executive Officer Hock Tan said the chipmaker’s AI business will improve “significantly” in the coming fiscal year and is working with prospective customers to develop AI accelerators to rival Nvidia.
