President Donald Trump will sign an executive order Friday that will formally make the "Department of War" the secondary title of the Department of Defense.

The order will not permanently rename the Defense Department, which would require congressional approval, but it will authorize Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to use secondary titles like the "Secretary of War" and "Department of War" in official correspondence, public communications and during formal ceremonies, according to a White House preview of the order.
