Hey there (unknown)!

Here we are with another Resonance Report!

Summer is nearly over. Wait that sounds miserable.

You are heading back to school or work after your fun vacation. Nope that sounds even worse.

Let’s try again!

Although the mundanity of life may be setting back in, we are back delivering great music production advice and iconic sound recreations straight to your mailbox!

So grab yourself a relaxing beverage and dive into some high quality brain expanding tips and tricks that will further you along your music making journey!

1 -> Tip Of The Biweek

When you are working on a project in a DAW and you are about to make a large edit that will change a significant amount of your work it is always a good idea to save as a new version. This way if you are not happy with what you have done or you want to check version against version you can always go back to the older save. Also helps keep “in project clutter” at a minimum!

2 -> Crazy Glitchy Musical Madness!

When we think of sound glitches we often imagine those times a project export fails and corrupts and we are left with audio that stutters, pitch warps and in many ways just sounds broken. But what if we could use glitches to our advantage? Here is a fantastic video taking glitches into a very musical territory:

Watch as You Suck At Producing showcases 5 super cool glitch techniques to add intrigue and unique sound textures to your music

3 -> Unlocking production secrets!

Usually when we consider a denoiser, we think of it as a way to clean audio up and make it more useable. But what happens if we use it in a way that 'breaks' audio? What kind of interesting and cool sounds can we generate? Here is a video exploring a denoiser used in a counter intuitive way:

In this video Sketi showcases using a denoiser in a way that you wouldn't normally consider but getting very interesting textural results to add to your music. Get this knowledge in your memory banks now!

4 -> Our Latest Remake

This weeks sound showcase is the beautiful keys sound from 'Boards Of Canada - Turquoise Hexagon Sun'

Boards of Canada’s “Turquoise Hexagon Sun” opens with a haunting bell-like synthesizer sound that establishes its ethereal atmosphere. This timbre is achieved with a simple sine wave, subtle unison, and heavy reverb. The synthesizer appears immediately at the track’s start, dominating the mix before evolving into layered textures.

Using Primer, learn how this synth sound was made and how to remake it yourself.
