![]() Greetings!NBC's "Must See TV" block of shows, which featured classic sitcoms like "Seinfeld," "Friends" and "Mad About You," was a big part of the network's dominance between the 1990s and early 2000s. Fast forward two-plus decades, and parent NBCUniversal is hoping to tap into that legacy for its streaming Peacock service. That's why there is a lot riding on "The Paper," a comedy debuting Thursday set in the same universe as streaming darling "The Office." As Jose Alejandro Bastidas writes, the successful reception of "The Paper" (it currently holds an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes and was picked up Wednesday for an early Season 2 renewal) may give the streamer the signal to push forward with original scripted comedies, something the service has lacked with much of its content prioritized around sports and NBC and Bravo projects. It's important that the service carve out its own identity and offer popular originals to justify the subscription costs at a time when consumers are facing rising costs everywhere.
