Shirley Watkins holds up a framed copy of the first edition and a current cover of the Upper Room daily devotional magazine. The keepsake was presented to Watkins and two other leaders of the Travis Park United Methodist Church in San Antonio, who traveled to Nashville for the publisher’s 90th anniversary celebration on August 20. It was a request from their church that originally prompted the publisher to launch the devotional series.
