Hello, Springfield District,

I hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful, rejuvenating summer in preparation for the upcoming school year! In my June newsletter, I mentioned that I’d be in touch again in August; however, the School Board has voted on an update to the Boundary Review Policy, and I wanted to make sure you all knew!

Last night, the Board voted on a revision to the phasing portion of Policy 8130, School Boundaries. While this was similar language to the amendments that were considered last year, the Board voted unanimously to accept the amendments to the policy. More information is below, but I wanted to take a moment to thank both my colleagues for bringing this forward again and Dr. Reid for the work done over the last year to ensure the proposed phasing was possible. We landed where I expected we would, but I hope these changes to the policy give concerned families a little peace of mind.

Please don’t forget that the ability to provide feedback on the Boundary Explorer Tool will close at 5 p.m. today. Be sure to share your thoughts before then! If you have questions about the Boundary Explorer Tool, please view this short video

As always, you can find all the information about boundaries on the FCPS website, and I have also linked some resources below that have been shared with the community in the last few weeks.

I have included a few other updates below: FCPS is hiring, and a Military Families Welcome BBQ is scheduled for August 13, 2025.

Lastly, I am excited to share that I have been elected School Board Chair for the 2025-16 school year with my colleague, Dranesville District Representative, Robyn Lady, as Vice Chair. Read more about us

I’ll be in touch next month!

Sandy Anderson

Currently enrolled students in grades 4-5  in schools with a K-5 configuration, and in grades 5-6 in schools with a K-6 configuration, shall be given the option to remain at the school or attend the school in the new boundary.

Middle Schools: When a boundary adjustment occurs at the middle school level, attendance in the new school boundary shall be mandatory for incoming 6th-grade students in schools with a 6-8 grade configuration and for incoming 7th-grade students in schools with a 7-8 grade level configuration. Currently enrolled students shall be given the option to remain at the school or attend the school in the new boundary.
