Join artist Olivia Tripp Morrow and art therapist Lisa Raye Garlock for an experiential artist talk to coincide with Morrow’s solo exhibition, (Un)tethered. The evening will begin with a gallery talk and brief Q & A, followed by a sewing circle. Participants will learn some basic embroidery techniques and engage in ‘slow stitching’ as a group. No prior experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided. More

First performed in 2009, this staple in Synetic’s wordless Shakespeeare repertoire overflows with enchantment and romance, and is a perfect theatrical treat for the whole family. Turns out that all that glitters IS gold! OK, no, wait a minute. It’s not. At all. This is the story of the young German man Joshua, who fulfills his lifelong dream of moving to fabulous Las Vegas. But after getting a job as the assistant to the Vegas royalty known as Siegfried and Roy, he tragically finds out that the nickname “Sin City” has been very well earned. The show blends sharp legal drama with outrageous showbiz spectacle, set in a fictionalized Las Vegas where “hometown justice” meets backstage secrets. Shred hard or play hard? Don’t ditch your gear — fix it up and make it yours.

Bring your ripped jeans, hoodies, or whatever needs love. We’ll show you how to turns rips into art with upcycled fabric, sashiko thread, and visible stitchwork that shows off your creativity. No experience needed. The workshop will be held in conjunction with the Invisible Skate Theory exhibition. More

 

Shop Class: The Art of Visible Mending

The Shop at Central Library | Virginia Square

Instead of hiding your mending, highlight it and celebrate the uniqueness of your item. The Shop is offering a beginning series on the art of visible mending by hand. Sign up for all three events or just one. Please bring a small piece of clothing that needs to be mended for July 22 and August 19 events. Knowledge of basic hand sewing is recommended. Ages 18+.

Visible Mending Circle

Mondays | 1:30-3p | Cherrydale Library | Cherrydale

Give your clothing and textile items new life using the art of visible mending—where creative stitchwork can be seen and celebrated. Each session will teach a new skill for hand-mending, led by Art on the Mend’s Lead Mend-tor Alison Davis-Holland. Ages 14+ recommended.
