PM Sir Keir Starmer has said the UK will begin returning migrants arriving in small boats to France within weeks after striking a deal with President Emmanuel Macron. Under the agreement, Britain would send some asylum seekers back across the Channel, while accepting the same number of migrants from France, pending security clearance. Starmer said it was not a "silver bullet" but the "ground-breaking" pilot scheme would be scaled up if it's successful. Opposition parties have said it won't be effective. While the "one in, one out" plan sounds simple, writes our home editor Mark Easton, it's likely to encounter legal, political and practical obstacles.
